Here is an experiment that requires a bit more time but the outcome will be worth it! Add this to your next weekend of fun!
YOU WILL NEED:
- Dish for the base
- Large Plastic bottle
- Play dough
- Decorative items: leaves and sticks
- Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate
- Dishwasher Detergent
- Red food colouring
- Acetic Acid 3%
- Water
STEP 1
Start off by making your own volcano by placing the large plastic bottle in the middle of the dish. Secure the bottle using double sided tape or anything that will keep the bottle from moving.
STEP 2
Mould the play dough around the bottle ensuring it is fully covered and fits with a volcano shape.
STEP 3
Add the decorative items such as leaves and sticks to create the illusion of a realistic volcano.
STEP 4
Create the volcano lava by mixing the red food colouring with warm water. Using a funnel, pour this into the bottle hidden inside the volcano.
STEP 5
Add six drops of the dishwasher detergent, two tablespoons of Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate and the Acetic Acid 3%.
Watch as the eruption unfolds! The reaction will be quick so keep your eyes peeled!
