Exterior bricks over time begin to build up moss and dirt fading your shiny bricks away. The exterior of your home is the first thing people see, so why not spruce them up with a shine with our Hydrochloric Acid 10%! This guide will teach you how to wash your exterior bricks with caution.

Hydrochloric Acid, also known as strong water or muriatic acid, is a chemical normally used for cleaning hard surfaces and surfaces which are hard to clean, such as brick, concrete, and others. This is a highly corrosive product that should be used with extreme caution; otherwise it may damage your skin.

Hydrochloric Acid must be handled with extreme care and therefore when handling this product the following should be worn:

• Long-sleeved shirt and trousers that cover your arms and legs
• Closed shoes
• Rubber gloves
• Goggles to protect your eyes from any drops or splashes

FOR HYDROCHLORIC ACID 10% – SHOP NOW

You Will Need:

• Hydrochloric Acid 10% – Shop Now
• Water – Shop Now
• Bucket – may require two if not using a jet wash
• Scrub brush with long handle – may require two, if not using a jet wash
• Stiff brush
• Jet wash – if choosing not to use the scrub brush for step 5

STEP 1

For lighter colour bricks:

In a bucket mix one part Hydrochloric Acid with 10 parts water.

For darker colour bricks:

In a bucket mix one part Hydrochloric Acid with 20 parts water.

*PLEASE NOTE: Do not add any other product as you could cause a dangerous chemical reaction.*

STEP 2

*ENSURE YOU ARE WEARING THE CORRECT CLOTHES WHEN HANDING HYDROCHLORIC ACID*

Dampen the surface of the bricks you want to clean using a long scrub brush. Simply dampen your brush in the Hydrochloric Acid and begin to soak into the wall. The scrub brush should look something like this:

*ENSURE THE SCRUB BRUSH DOES HAVE A LONG HANDLE AS THIS WILL HELP REACH SOME OF THE BRICKS AND AVOID CONTACT WITH THE HYDROCHLORIC ACID. ENSURE GLOVES AND OTHER PROTECTION IS WORN THROUGHOUT AS INSTRUCTED ABOVE. TAKE CARE NOT TO SPLASH*

 

 

 

 

STEP 3

Repeat this step again and begin to rub the brush into the gaps in the bricks to make sure all the bricks and the concrete are covered. Once you have covered a large portion of bricks, leave on the surface for 10 minutes.

STEP 4

After this time, begin to take a stiff dry brush and rub into the surface to remove dirt stuck in the brick or concrete.

STEP 5

After you are satisfied with rubbing the dirt, use a jet wash to clear away the Hydrochloric Acid. Rinse for at least 2 minutes or until you are happy that the acid is no longer on the bricks. Alternatively take a new long scrub brush, 1 bucket full of water and dip the brush into the water and begin to scrub away the acid.
