Halloween is approaching fast and if you are looking for very cool party ideas consider using dry ice to create amazing smoke effects. This could be placed inside your home in several places or even outside your home where guests will walk in to create the illusion of no pathway!

*Please Note: We do not supply dry ice, this is a guideline only for a spooky effect.

*Please Note: When doing this experiment, all children should be supervised by an adult. Appropriate clothing must be worn including aprons, gloves, safety goggles, suitable clothing and shoes and hair should be tied back. When handling the dry ice use tongs when suitable to do so. Alternatively pour with safety.*

You Will Need:

  • 2 Litres of Hot Water
  • 200 Grams of Dry Ice
  • Plastic Bucket

Top Tip: For a smaller fog effect use in a beaker however for a bigger fog effect use a plastic bucket.

The hotter the water the better the fog effect, but if you use a kettle make sure that the water has rested for at least 3 minutes before pouring otherwise your fog will lift-off into a cloud of steam..

STEP 1

Choose where you want to place your fog effect.

STEP 2

Decide on the size of the fog effect you desire. It is suggested to experiment with 200g of ice and 2 litres of hot water. This will spread to about 3-4 metres. If this is not sufficient, you can always scale up.

STEP 3

Use a plastic bucket and place on a towel. You will get moisture depositing on nearby surfaces so make sure computers and any other electronics are out of reach.

STEP 4

Measure the correct amount of water and heat up. Aim for the temperature of a cup of tea.

STEP 5

Measure the dry ice into the plastic bucket. Aim for 1/2 pint ceramic coffee mug as this makes a excellent scoop size and holds around 200 grams of dry ice.

STEP 6

Begin to pour the entire contents of the hot water into the plastic bucket! Expect cheers and applause!
